Aptera Beach
Welcome to Aptera Beach
Aptera Beach, nestled along the serene coast of Apterou near Chania, Greece, stands out as a genuine gem for travelers seeking a tranquil seaside escape. With a commendable rating of 4.4, this beach offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and laid-back charm that invites visitors to unwind away from crowded tourist hubs.
Unlike the neighboring Golden Beach, Aptera Beach maintains an intimate atmosphere, free from an overabundance of sunbeds and loud music, especially notable during the quieter months. This setting provides an ideal retreat for those longing for peaceful moments by the sea. The beach's sandy shore, complemented by clean changing rooms and showers, enhances the overall comfort and convenience of visitors.
The adjacent beach bar enriches the experience with its delightful culinary offerings and relaxing vibe. Its menu showcases fresh, thoughtfully prepared dishes like avocado salads and mushroom risottos, capturing the essence of Greek flavors with care and finesse. While service might occasionally be a touch slow, the genuine friendliness of the staff and the beautiful view of the beach create a welcoming ambiance that guests appreciate.
Aptera Beach also impresses with its balance of accessibility and tranquility. Just a short walk from Chania town center, it allows easy exploration while preserving its peaceful environment. Guests are advised to bring water shoes when venturing after rough weather, as waves can shift pebbles into the water, yet this minor detail does little to diminish the beach’s allure.
For visitors longing for a tasteful and calm setting to enjoy sandy shores, fresh Greek cuisine, and warm hospitality, Aptera Beach emerges as a recommended destination. Its respectful pricing and understated elegance make it an attractive alternative to more commercialized resorts, inviting guests to reconnect with nature and savor the slower, simpler pleasures of the Cretan coast.

Smaller beach just right next to the Golden Beach. We went there the first week of Oct, and there were no sunbeds at that time (Golden beach had sunbeds and restaurants were open if needed). This suited us perfectly however, as it wasn't crowded. There are changing rooms and showers available. Views is amazing, I reckon water would be lovely if the weather was better (we went after a rainy day, and it was super windy) Definitely will come again
Great beach bar! Beautiful and a very relaxing vibe, in a shade with a little breeze, and a view to the beach. The food is delicious and pretty. Minuses: a bit slow service, yet friendly and nice. Could add oat milk as a substitute for cow’s milk for coffees. I’ve had bruschetta and mushroom risotto, both were very flavorful.
They seemed to be good. observant. Drinks and food came as agreed. We were in the 3rd row on the beach where we heard little music, comfortable compared to being on the upper level. Slightly large sun loungers that are difficult to turn around after the sun if I want to poke at something.
It is a nice sandy beach close to Chania. It has a fancy place to listen to music and have something to drink and they rent out fancy sunbeds I think the first row close to the water is 20 euro, then 15, and 10. You can always just bring your towel for free. I try and stay away from the music because it is very annoying same and same all day.
Went to the beach they administer and is a wonderful option if you're looking for a close one, not crowded, not commercial with loud music spot close to Chania town. Walking distance close to town. Ps: after a red flag day with high winds and waves all the small rocks and pebbles from the beach you will find in the water the next day bring your water shoes just to be on the safe side. Prices in mid September are 10eur for 2 sun loungers and umbrella on the beach, and only 6eur on a red flag day when you can't go into the sea.
It was windy when we went, so we didn't get in the water. But it was beautiful! I would definitely go back!
UPDATE 8/7/2024 - Aptera CLOSED, beautiful beach is still here of course —— Very good place, clean beach, reasonable prices (compared to other similar but more luxury resorts), relatively quiet place, kind staff, meal perfect, above Greek standards clean toilets (!). Recommended, don't go to city beach in Chania go there! Suggestion for improvements: Some topless girls/ladies for making this place hotter but can be individual, sure.
Amazing place! I tried all the salads and almost the whole breakfast menu and everything is fresh and made with care and love. All the staff is very friendly and helpful! The Avocado salad is a must as well as the Viennese baguette :)
